Rosh Hashanah

As someone who is absolutely head over hills in love with a Jewish Man, I find the Jewish Holidays and Festivals fascinating.  I do not feel obligated to them, (see New Testament and freedom the act on the cross brought) but I enjoy the rich history and culture from which they spring.  The God that I serve, is the same G_d they serve, so we already have a common ground.

Rosh Hashanah is the the New Year for the Jewish calendar.  The focus on repenting of any wrongdoings through the year.  It is like the parable of the child who has gone astray, squandered his inheritance only to return home and find he can no longer remember his native language.  So he cries out from a well spring of sorrow and repentance.  The father hears the cry of his child and recognizes his voice and comes to the gate to let him back into the safety of the family.  The wail of the Shofar is the representation of that cry.  When it sounds the end of the old year and the beginning of the new year, it is also sounding the heart cries of the people for repentance and restoration.

My daughter goes to Lee University.  She had a class where the teacher asked the students to let out a groan or wail for themselves or a friend, just find a cause and wail.  She said they all started to moan, a little at first, then it grew, until the class was crying and praying and a sweep of anguish passed through the room.  The teacher said.  "You just touched the the heart cry of the Holy Spirit."

As you inventory your life this season, as you remember those transgression or cracks in your life and ask for repentance, find a place, a time to wail with the Shofar.  Find a moment when you and the Holy Spirit are one.

Romans 8:26-27.  In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the [j]saints according to the will of God.
